Konnichiwa minna-san,

So, a dream finally came true after years and years of wondering if I would ever get here. It’s currently the first of July, and I am sitting in my hotel, Hotel Onyado Nono Kyoto Shichijo Natural Hot Spring, in Kyoto as I start writing this blog.

何年も何年も「いつか行けるのだろうか」と思い続けていた夢が、ついに叶いました。このブログを書き始めた今は7月1日。京都のホテル「天然温泉 蓮花の湯 御宿 野乃京都七条」の部屋に座っています。

Day 1 - 24th June / 1日目 - 6月24日

I arrived at Tokyo Haneda Airport around 11:00 PM after a 7-hour flight from Malaysia. The Tokyo night view from above was f***ing breathtaking. Not gonna lie, I shed a few tears when I saw that view.

マレーシアからの7時間のフライトを経て、午後11時頃に東京・羽田空港に到着しました。上空から見下ろす東京の夜景は息をのむほど美しかったです。嘘偽りなく、その景色を見た瞬間、思わず涙がこぼれました。

My itinerary looked like this:

• Arrive in Tokyo -> Take domestic flight to Osaka -> Stay in Osaka -> Head to Kyoto for 2 days -> Return to Osaka -> Head back to Tokyo for the rest of the trip.

旅程はこんな感じです：

• 東京到着 -> 国内線で大阪へ -> 大阪滞在 -> 京都へ（2日間） -> 大阪に戻る -> 残りの日程は東京へ。

Layover at Tokyo Haneda Airport / 羽田空港でのレイオーバー

I landed at Terminal 2 at 11:00 PM, and my flight to Osaka wasn’t until 8:00 AM the next morning. Back when I was planning, I thought, “Hey, I have a 9-hour transit! I can just walk around and collect some Eki Stamps.” Boy, was I wrong!

午後11時に第2ターミナルに着いたのですが、大阪行きの乗り継ぎ便は翌朝の8時でした。旅行の計画を立てていた時は、「9時間も乗り継ぎ時間があるから、歩き回って駅スタンプを集めよう！」なんて考えていたんです。…甘かった！

Basically, almost every Information Service desk, whether in the airport or railway stations has a unique stamp you can collect, but I completely forgot to check if they closed at night. I ended up spending the next 2 hours just wandering around a mostly quiet Terminal 2.

空港や駅の案内所にはオリジナルのスタンプが置いてあることが多いのですが、夜間に閉まるかどうかを確認するのを完全に忘れていました。結局、静まり返った第2ターミナルを2時間ほど彷徨う羽目になりました。

I got my personalized Suica card for the metro. Of course, I had to get my name printed on it!

地下鉄用に自分だけのMy Suica（記名式Suica）を発行しました。もちろん名前入りです！

There were plenty of vending machines around, and I was thirsty af, so I tried a drink called Pocari Sweat. I chugged the whole thing in under 2 minutes. It was so freaking good!

自動販売機がたくさんあって喉がカラカラだったので、「ポカリスエット」というドリンクを買ってみました。2分もかからずに一気に飲み干しました。めちゃくちゃ美味しかった！

Around midnight, a security guard came up to inform me that Terminal 2 was closing. (Wait, what?! I didn’t know airport terminals closed! Where the hell am I supposed to go? My whole plan was to crash at the terminal!).

夜の12時頃、警備員さんがやってきて「第2ターミナルは閉館します」と告げられました。（えっ、嘘でしょ！？空港のターミナルって夜閉まるの！？どこに行けばいいの？ターミナルで夜を明かす計画だったのに！）

He told me I needed to transfer over to Terminal 3. Apparently, Haneda shuts down Terminals 1 and 2 around midnight, so everyone has to head to Terminal 3 to rest until morning. So I hopped on the free airport interterminal shuttle bus and made my way over.

警備員さんによると、第3ターミナルへ移動する必要があるとのこと。羽田空港は深夜になると第1・第2ターミナルを閉鎖するため、朝まで休む人はみんな第3ターミナルへ向かうのだそうです。というわけで、無料のターミナル間連絡バスに乗って第3ターミナルへ向かいました。

Terminal 3 / 第3ターミナル

Terminal 3 was huge. My feet were completely dead, and I was pretty sure I had blisters forming, so I found a spot to sit down and rested for about an hour before heading out to explore again.

第3ターミナルはとても広かったです。足は限界で絶対にマメができている感触があったので、ベンチを見つけて1時間ほど休み、それから再び探検に出かけました。

At 2:00 AM, I went into Lawson and grabbed an egg sandwich, it was decent, nothing overly mind-blowing—and an onigiri.

午前2時、ローソンに入ってたまごサンド（普通に美味しかったですが感動するほどではなかったです）とおにぎりを買いました。

I went up to the 3rd floor, and holy shit, I was not expecting a giant Godzilla staring down at me from above!

3階に上がると、なんと巨大なゴジラが上から見下ろしていてビックリしました！

There was another one on the 2nd floor as well.

2階にももう一体いました。

I spent the rest of the night alternating between walking around and sitting on the benches. By the time morning rolled around, I had been awake for almost 24 hours straight!

それからは歩き回ったりベンチで休んだりを繰り返し、朝を迎える頃には丸24時間連続で起きている状態になっていました！

Day 2 - 25th June Osaka / 2日目 - 6月25日 大阪

At 6:00 AM, I waited until the Information Service desk opened and finally got my very first Eki Stamp! There were actually a few more on the upper floors, but since I was worried about missing my flight, I gave up on those and went straight to the free shuttle bus back to Terminal 2.

午前6時、案内所が開くのを待って、ついに記念すべき最初のスタンプをゲットしました！上の階にもいくつかスタンプがあったのですが、飛行機に乗り遅れるのが怖かったので諦め、無料 shuttle バスで第2ターミナルに戻りました。

Terminal 2 was absolutely bombarded with people as I entered, a huge contrast to last night, when it was completely empty! I checked in and headed straight to my gate. I was so excited to see Mount Fuji from the plane and had specifically booked a window seat just for the view. But guess what? Two nasty typhoons were hitting Japan, and as “lucky” as I am, it was completely cloudy so I didn’t get to see it at all!

昨夜のガラガラだった様子とは打って変わって、朝の第2ターミナルは大混雑！チェックインを済ませてゲートへ向かいました。機内から富士山を見るのをすごく楽しみにしていたので、わざわざ窓側の席を予約していたんです。しかし…なんと強烈な台風が2つも日本に接近しており、いつもの「運の良さ」を発揮して一面の曇り空。富士山は全く見えませんでした！

When I arrived at Osaka Itami/Kansai Airport, navigation was surprisingly easy. I went straight to the Information Service desk to pick up the Mobal eSIM I had pre-booked. There was also another Eki Stamp there, so of course, I collected that too. The lady at the counter was so sweet when I told her I was from Mauritius, she smiled and went, “Sugoi ne! I want to visit Mauritius too!”

大阪（伊丹/関空）に到着すると、移動は驚くほどスムーズでした。事前予約していたMobalのeSIMを受け取るために案内所へ向かいました。そこにもスタンプがあったので、もちろんゲット！カウンターの女性にモーリシャスから来たと伝えると、「すごいね！私もモーリシャスに行ってみたいです！」と笑顔で話してくれて、とても気さくな方でした。

At this point, I was so exhausted I could barely stand. During my initial planning, my idea was to take the subway to my hotel. However, the information lady recommended taking the airport limousine bus instead, as it dropped off right behind my hotel which was so much more convenient. So I took her advice!

この時点で僕は立っているのもやっとなくらい疲れていました。最初は地下鉄でホテルまで行くつもりだったのですが、案内所のスタッフさんが「リムジンバスならホテルのすぐ裏に着くからずっと便利ですよ」と勧めてくれたので、お言葉に甘えてバスに乗ることにしました！

APA Hotel & Exploring / APAホテルと散策

I arrived at my APA Hotel around 11:30 AM. I walked up to the check-in desk, only to be told that check-in didn’t open until 3:00 PM (15:00). Bruh!!!!! I could have literally cried. They mentioned that early check-in required an extra fee, so I decided to just drop off my luggage and go for a walk instead.

午前11時半頃にAPAホテルに到着。フロントへ向かうと「チェックインは午後3時（15:00）からです」と言われました。…マジかよ！！！泣きそうになりました。アーリーチェックインには追加料金がかかるとのことだったので、荷物だけ預けて散歩に出かけることにしました。

I was starving at this point. As I walked down the street, I spotted four Japanese salarymen heading into a nearby building. I decided to follow their lead and went into the exact same restaurant they entered!

お腹もペコペコでした。道を歩いていると、日本のサラリーマン4人が近くのビルに入っていくのを発見。「地元の人について行けば間違いない！」と思い、彼らと同じお店に入ってみました！

I sat down and ordered a Conger Eel (Anago) Bento Set, and it was so good! It came with cold soba, eel over rice (the sauce was amazing!), hot miso soup, and a side broth to mix with the soba.

席に着き「あなご弁当セット」を注文したのですが、これがめちゃくちゃ美味しかった！冷たいそば、あなご重（タレが絶品！）、温かいお味噌汁、そして蕎麦湯までついていました。

Since I wasn’t wearing a watch on this trip, I decided to hunt one up. I found a nearby Bic Camera store and ended up buying a Garmin watch. Bic Camera was massive about seven floors! I spent nearly two hours wandering around, mostly getting lost in the anime section, of course.

今回の旅行では腕時計をしてこな買ったので、時計を探すことにしました。近くのビックカメラに入り、Garminのスマートウォッチを購入。ビックカメラは7階建てくらいあってとにかく巨大！2時間近く店内を歩き回り、当然のごとくアニメコーナーで没頭してしまいました。

Evening in Dotonbori / 道頓堀の夜

By 3:00 PM, I finally checked into my room and immediately passed out for a much-needed rest.

午後3時、ようやくチェックインして即爆睡。必要な休息をとりました。

I woke back up around 9:00 PM (21:00) and headed out for a night walk through the city.

夜の9時頃に目を覚まし、夜の街へ散歩に出かけました。

I played my very first gachapon machine of the trip and got Hedwig!

旅で最初のガチャガチャに挑戦し、ヘドウィグをゲット！

Ayy, I finally saw the famous Glico Running Man sign in Dotonbori!

ついに道頓堀の有名なグリコサインを見ることができました！

I ended up spending around ¥1,200 on a crane game trying to win a Frieren figure… but left empty-handed 🥲.

フリーレンのフィギュアを狙ってクレーンゲームに1,200円ほど使ったのですが…手ぶらで終わりました🥲。

Universal Studios Japan (USJ) / ユニバーサル・スタジオ・ジャパン

Well, here we are, the moment I’ve been waiting for! But wait… of course there was a typhoon rolling in. See how lucky I am?

さあやってきました、待ちに待った瞬間！…と思いきや、当然のように台風が直撃。僕の運の良さ（？）がお分かりいただけるでしょう。

I walked down to the metro station only to be told that trains weren’t running due to the severe weather, and apparently, one of the main stations on the line was flooded! With no other option to get to the park, I had to get a taxi. It cost me around ¥5,000, but I wasn’t going to let a typhoon ruin my day at USJ.

地下鉄の駅まで歩いて行くと、悪天候のため電車が運転見合わせ、しかも路線上の主要駅が冠水しているとのこと！パークへ行く手段が他になく、タクシーを使うことにしました。約5,000円かかりましたが、台風ごときにUSJでの一日を台無しにされてたまるか！という思いでした。

The very first thing I did after walking through the gates was head straight to the Information Center to get my USJ Eki Stamp!

入園して真っ先に向かったのはインフォメーションセンター。USJのスタンプをしっかりゲットしました！

Detective Conan Show / 名探偵コナン ライブ・ショー

USJ is absolutely massive, and honestly, I didn’t really have a set plan for where to go first. I just walked toward the first attraction I saw, which happened to be the Detective Conan 4-D show.

USJはとにかく広くて、正直どこから回るか決めていませんでした。目に入った最初のアトラクションに向かったところ、それが「名探偵コナン」の4Dショーでした。

The pre-show had English subtitles on the side screens setting up the storyline, which made it super easy to follow along. The live host was so kawaii, and getting to see Kaito Kid make his dramatic appearance was so cool!

プレショーの画面には英語字幕が付いていたのでストーリーがすごく分かりやすかったです。MCの女性がとっても可愛くて、怪盗キッドが華麗に登場するシーンはめちゃくちゃカッコよかった！

Minion / ミニオン

After Conan, I wandered over to Minion Park. The ride was okay… not my favorite, but the vibrant decor and cute minion chaos still made it a lot of fun to walk through!

コナンの後はミニオン・パークへ。ライドアトラクションはまあ普通でしたが、カラフルな装飾と可愛らしいミニオンたちのハチャメチャな雰囲気は歩いているだけで楽しかったです！

The Flying Dinosaur / ザ・フライング・ダイナソー

Oh boy… while walking around, I could hear people on the ride screaming their absolute lungs out. I was so excited for this! Believe it or not, I had never been on a rollercoaster or theme park ride before in my life, so this was going to be my absolute first experience.

歩いていると、乗客の喉が千切れるほどの絶叫が聞こえてきました。これには大興奮！信じられないかもしれませんが、僕は人生で一度もジェットコースターに乗ったことがなかったので、これが生まれて初めての体験になります。

And holy hell, it did NOT disappoint! I could literally feel my soul coming out of my body on those drops, but I held it together and didn’t scream xD. It was literally one hell of a ride..now I completely understand why some people faint on these things!

そして…期待を裏切らない凄まじさでした！ 急降下するとき、文字通り魂が体から抜け出るような感覚がしましたが、なんとか堪えて叫ばずに済みました（笑）。本当に凄まじい絶叫マシンで、気を失う人がいる理由が心から理解できました！

P.S. I ended up riding it three times!

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter / ウィザーディング・ワールド・オブ・ハリー・ポッター

If you know me, you know I’ve been a massive Harry Potter fan since childhood. Stepping into Hogsmeade and seeing Hogwarts Castle looming in front of me was a huge moment. Even though I was standing there looking completely stone-faced on the outside, I was screaming with pure excitement on the inside!

僕を知っている人なら、僕が子供の頃から大のハリー・ポッターファンであることを知っているはず。ホグズミード村に足を踏み入れ、目の前にそびえ立つホグワーツ城を見た瞬間は感無量でした。外見はポーカーフェイスを装っていましたが、心の中では大興奮で叫びまくっていました！

Ohh hi there, it’s me! Well, since it was raining, I obviously had to get myself the official Wizard Raincoat:

First time trying Butterbeer! It was a bit too sweet for my taste, but worth a try:

Inside Hogwarts Castle / ホグワーツ城の内部

I didn’t manage to take too many pictures and videos inside, but it was exactly as magical as I expected. Seeing the Sorting Hat talk in person and walking through the castle hallways was incredible.

内部の写真はあまり撮れませんでしたが、期待通りの魔法のような世界でした。しゃべる組分け帽子を間近で見たり、城の廊下を歩いたりできて感動しました。

The queue for Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey was long, but thanks to the Express Pass, I got priority access and only waited about 10 minutes! The ride itself was amazing—seeing the flying Dementors up close was insane, and the Aragog spider scene actually jumpscared me!

「ハリー・ポッター・アンド・ザ・フォービドゥン・ジャーニー」の列は長蛇の列でしたが、エクスプレス・パスのおかげで10分ほどで乗れました！アトラクション自体も素晴らしく、間近で迫るディメンターやアラゴグ（巨大クモ）には本気でビクッとさせられました！

After Forbidden Journey, I jumped on the Flight of the Hippogriff coaster. Since it was outdoors, I rode the whole thing in the pouring rain!

その後は「フライト・オブ・ザ・ヒッポグリフ」へ。野外コースターなので、土砂降りの中で乗ることになりました！

Hagrid’s Hut / ハグリッドの小屋

I headed back to Hogsmeade to do some proper shopping and bought myself a Gryffindor house cloak!

ホグズミードに戻ってしっかり買い物をし、グリフィンドールのローブを購入！

I actually spent around 30 minutes chatting with one of the shop staff members. I showed her the plush Dodo I brought with me from Mauritius, and she taught me a few Japanese words, it was such a fun interaction!

ショップのスタッフさんと30分ほどおしゃべりをしました。モーリシャスから持ってきたドードー鳥のぬいぐるみを見せたら、日本語の単語をいくつか教えてくれて、とても楽しい交流になりました！

Frieren / 葬送のフリーレン

Next up, I went over to the Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End experience. Unlike the Conan show, this one didn’t have English subtitles, but I was totally fine following along in Japanese. I was the only foreigner in the entire group rocking my Gryffindor cloak among all the Japanese fans!

次は「葬送のフリーレン」のアトラクションへ。コナンと違って英語字幕はありませんでしたが、日本語で十分に楽しめました。日本のファンに混ざって、グリフィンドールのローブを着た外国人は僕一人だけでした！

Photography wasn’t allowed inside, but it was designed as an immersive journey following Frieren, Fern, and Stark. Frieren’s magic takes you on a walk through memories, and it was such a beautiful, atmospheric experience.

内部は撮影禁止でしたが、フリーレン、フェルン、シュタルクの旅を追体験できる素晴らしい没入型アトラクションでした。記憶を辿る魔法の世界観がとても美しく印象的でした。

Super Nintendo World / スーパー・ニンテンドー・ワールド

Ah, the famous Super Nintendo World! As expected, it was completely packed with people. I went on some rides…it was super cool, but definitely crowded.

噂のスーパー・ニンテンドー・ワールド！予想通り大混雑でした。アトラクションにも乗りましたが、最高にクオリティが高い反面、とにかく人が多かったです。

Hollywood Dream / ハリウッド・ドリーム・ザ・ライド

Hollywood Dream was intense, though not quite as terrifying as The Flying Dinosaur. By this time, it was raining heavily, so by the time I stepped off the coaster, I was completely drenched!

ハリウッド・ドリームは迫力満点でしたが、「フライング・ダイナソー」ほど恐怖感はありませんでした。この頃には雨がかなり激しく降っていたため、降りる頃には全身ずぶ濡れになっていました！

Harry Potter Again / 再びハリー・ポッターへ

Around 6:00 PM, I made my way back to the Wizarding World one last time. I rerode the attractions and hung around Hogsmeade until the evening lights turned on, illuminating Hogwarts Castle against the night sky.

午後6時頃、最後にもう一度魔法界へ。アトラクションに再び乗り、夜のライトアップで漆黒の夜空に浮かび上がるホグワーツ城を眺めました。台風に見舞われた荒れ模様の1日でしたが、最高の締めくくりとなりました！

Day 3/4 - Weekends / 3・4日目 - 週末

I decided to keep it light on the weekend, so I focused more on doing some shopping at Uniqlo. The clothes there are so light and inexpensive.

週末は無理せずゆったり過ごすことにし、ユニクロでショッピングを楽しみました。軽くて安くて最高です。

Also saw Ado-chan and bought a Japanese football shirt.

Adoちゃんのパネルも見かけて、サッカー日本代表のユニフォームも購入！

So broke that I only ate a sandwich for dinner 🥲

散財しすぎて、夕食はサンドイッチだけになりました🥲

Nipponbashi Denden Town / 日本橋でんでんタウン

Nipponbashi Denden Town is essentially the mini Akihabara of Osaka. As an otaku myself, I had to go! There were several buildings stacked with anime figures and merch. I specifically went on a hunt for the first volume of the One Piece manga, which is surprisingly hard to find. After searching through almost every single store, I finally found it!

日本橋でんでんタウンは、まさに大阪のミニ秋葉原。オタクである僕が行かないわけにはいきません！フィギュアやアニメグッズが詰まったビルがいくつもありました。特に『ONE PIECE』の単行本1巻を探していたのですが、これが意外と見つからない！ほぼ全店舗を回って、ついにゲットできました！

I ended up grabbing a whole stack of manga, including One Piece, Frieren, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Attack on Titan.

結局、『ONE PIECE』『葬送のフリーレン』『呪術廻戦』『進撃の巨人』など、マンガを大量買いしてしまいました。

HARUKAS 300 × Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End / あべのハルカス300 × 葬送のフリーレン

About a week before coming to Japan, I found out that the HARUKAS 300 observation deck was having a collaboration with Frieren. Naturally, I knew I had to go!

日本に来る1週間ほど前、あべのハルカス300の展望台で『葬送のフリーレン』のコラボイベントが開催されていることを知り、「絶対に行かなきゃ！」と思っていました。

Funny story: when I checked Google Maps, it said it was only 3.3 km away. Silly me thought, “Hey, I can easily walk that!” So I did… and it felt like an absolute eternity. But no regrets at all, because I got to see some really cool scenery along the way.

笑い話なのですが、Googleマップで調べたら距離がたった3.3kmと表示されたんです。愚かな僕は「これなら余裕で歩けるじゃん！」と思い歩き始めたのですが…果てしなく遠く感じました（笑）。でも途中で素敵な街並みを見られたので後悔はありません！

I stayed until it got dark for the Frieren projection mapping show. They even had a special Frieren stamp rally event!

暗くなるまで待って、フリーレンのプロジェクションマッピングを鑑賞。スタンプラリーイベントも楽しめました！

I definitely took the subway on the way back! Ended the day with a massive 32k steps completed.

帰りは迷わず地下鉄に乗りました！この日は合計3万2千歩も歩いていました。

Day 5 - Monday / 5日目 - 月曜日

I found a place online called Shuttle House, which sells all kinds of badminton gear. I decided to head over and buy myself a new racket since I broke my last two that I got from Thailand. The prices were pretty good, and I also picked up a pair of Asics badminton shoes. The shuttlecocks were expensive, though!

ネットでバドミントン用品を扱う「シャトルハウス」というショップを見つけました。タイで買ったラケットを2本とも折ってしまっていたので、新しいラケットを買いに行くことに。値段も手頃で、アシックスのバドミントンシューズもゲット。ただシャトルは結構高かったです！

Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan / 大阪水族館 海遊館

In the afternoon, I went to the Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan. The journey there was super easy since, by this time, I had already familiarized myself with Osaka Station!

午後は大阪水族館「海遊館」へ。大阪駅の構造にもだいぶ慣れていたのでスムーズに移動できました！

Personally, I’m not a huge fan of aquariums, but while I was doing my research before the trip, I saw so many people recommending it, so I went ahead and booked a ticket on Klook to check it out.

実は普段それほど水族館に興味があるわけではないのですが、事前調べでたくさんの人がオススメしていたので、Klookでチケットを予約して見に行くことにしました。

Day 6 - Kyoto - Tuesday / 6日目 - 京都（火曜日）

I took a train to Kyoto, which was about a 30-45min ride.

電車で京都へ向かいました。所要時間はだいたい30分から45分ほどでした。

While walking around Kyoto Station, I saw a Godzilla Shop and went in to browse. I saw a really cool mug and picked it up, but almost immediately, something fell out from inside it and shattered on the floor. I was terrified! The staff member came rushing over, and I kept bowing and repeating “Sumimasen” (I’m sorry).

She was bowing back to me too. The first thing she asked was, “Daijoubu desu ka?” (Are you okay?). I replied, “Daijoubu desu… Sumimasen, I will pay for it.” But she kept insistently refusing to let me pay. I felt so bad about the whole thing that I ended up buying a few items from the store just to make up for it!

京都駅をブラブラ歩いていると、ゴジラショップを見つけたので入ってみました。すごく格好いいマグカップを見つけて手に取ったのですが、直後に中から何かが落ちて床で割れてしまいました。本当に焦りました！店員さんが飛んできて、私は何度も頭を下げながら「すみません」と言い続けました。

店員さんも一緒におじぎをしてくれて、開口一番「大丈夫ですか？」と声をかけてくれました。「大丈夫です…すみません、弁償します」と伝えたのですが、店員さんは何度も「いいえ、大丈夫ですよ」と言って支払いを断ってくれました。申し訳なさがすごかったので、少しでも罪 guilty 感を減らそうと、その店で商品をいくつか買って帰りました！

I headed straight to my hotel to leave my luggage, as check-in wasn’t until 3:00 PM. I had planned to visit Kibune Shrine anyway, so I hopped on the train to head up there for some peace of mind.

チェックインの15時まで時間があったので、まずは荷物を預けにホテルへ向かいました。もともと貴船神社に行く予定だったので、気持ちを落ち着かせるためにも電車に乗って向かうことにしました。

Kibune / 貴船

It was quite a long journey. I had to take two train lines from Kyoto Station, and then transfer to two buses after getting off at Kibuneguchi Station.

かなりの長旅でした。京都駅から電車を2本乗り継ぎ、貴船口駅で降りたあとはバスを2本乗り継ぐ必要がありました。

These tanuki statues are outside almost every shop in Japan. Apparently, rubbing their… ahem… “balls of fortune” brings good luck!

日本のほぼすべてのお店で見かけるこの狸の置物。どうやら…コホン…「金運の金玉」を撫でると縁起が良いらしいです！

Kifune Shrine / 貴船神社

At Kifune Shrine, they have water fortune telling (Mizu-ura Mikuji). You take a blank piece of paper, place it in the sacred water, and Japanese characters magically appear. After the morning I had, I was almost expecting a curse, but I actually got a “Small Blessing” (Shō-kichi)… I’ll definitely take it!

貴船神社には「水占いみくじ」があります。何も書かれていない紙を神聖な水に浮かべると、日本語の文字が浮かび上がってきます。波乱の朝を迎えた後だったので「凶」でも出るんじゃないかとヒヤヒヤしましたが、結果は「小吉」でした…！まあ良しとしましょう！

There was a QR code on the paper that translated the detailed reading into English.

おみくじにはQRコードがついていて、英語で詳しい解説を読むことができました。

Ehh… wait, what’s this under “Travel”? “Beware of accidents”… Uhhhhh, these things are eerie, aren’t they? Wish they’d warned me before the Godzilla shop mug incident! 🥲

えっ…待って、「旅行」の項目になんて書いてある…？「怪我に注意」…うーん、おみくじって当たるものですね。ゴジラショップでマグカップを割る前に教えてほしかった！🥲

Since it was July 1st, there was a special ritual taking place at the shrine, which I stayed to watch.

この日は7月1日だったので、神社で特別な神事（儀式）が行われており、立ち止まって見学しました。

Kamo River at Night / 夜の鴨川散策

After heading back and checking into the hotel, I went for a night walk along the Kamo River.

(P.S. This exact same river was completely flooded just a few days prior due to the typhoon!)

ホテルに戻ってチェックインを済ませた後、夜の鴨川沿いをお散歩しに行きました。

(P.S. この鴨川、ほんの数日前の台風の時には完全に増水して溢れていた場所なんです！)

I sat by the water for about 30 minutes before continuing my stroll. Kyoto is honestly so peaceful at night.

川辺に30分ほど座ってから、また散歩を再開しました。夜の京都は本当に静かで落ち着きます。

When I got back to the hotel, I decided to try out their natural hot spring (onsen). It was my very first time experiencing one! The golden rule is that you have to go completely butt-naked alongside everyone else. I went in around 1:00 AM when there were only a few people around. It felt incredible after a long day of walking.

ホテルに戻り、天然温泉に入ってみることにしました。人生初の温泉体験です！「他の人たちと一緒に完全に全裸で入る」というのが鉄則。人が少なくなった深夜1時ごろに入りました。一日中歩き回った後の温泉は最高に気持ちよかったです。

In the evening, I went to the Nintendo Museum. Even as a solo traveler, I had an absolute blast exploring everything!

夕方には任天堂資料館（ニンテンドーミュージアム）へ行きました。一人旅でしたが、展示を巡るのが本当に楽しかったです！

Finally, the day I’ve been waiting for!

ついに、待ちに待った日がやってきました！

I woke up around 8:00 AM, and since checkout was at 10:00 AM, I got straight to organizing my luggage. Carrying a massive suitcase with me all the way from Osaka to Tokyo would have been a complete pain in the back. Thankfully, my hotel offered luggage forwarding! I went down to the lobby around 9:30 AM, and the staff member there was super friendly and helpful. I provided him with my next hotel details, and the total cost for forwarding was around ¥2,000.

朝8時頃に起き、10時のチェックアウトに向けて荷物整理を開始。大阪から東京まで巨大なスーツケースを持ち運ぶのは絶対に腰が死ぬので、ホテルの宅急便サービス（荷物配送）を利用しました。9時半頃ロビーへ行くと、スタッフさんがとても親切に対応してくれ、次のホテルの住所を伝えて約2,000円で送ることができました！

To get from Osaka to Tokyo, I took the Shinkansen (the bullet train). I had already booked my ticket prior to arriving in Japan. While waiting on the platform, I noticed several other fans wearing Ado merch!

大阪から東京への移動は新幹線を利用。日本に到着する前に予約しておきました。ホームで待っていると、Adoのライブグッズを着たファンを何人も見かけました！

Ado was actually holding a two-day concert at Nissan Stadium in Yokohama, and I was lucky enough to secure a ticket for the second day. I initially thought I had bought a ticket for the first day, but after triple-checking my confirmation email later on, I realized it was actually for day two. Anyway… I really wanted to go to the first day’s show as well, but Ticketboard was only selling day two tickets when I checked—which sucked because I already had one for that day!

Adoは横浜の日産スタジアムで2日間のライブを開催しており、僕は幸運にも2日目のチケットを確保できていました。最初は1日目のチケットを買ったと思い込んでいたのですが、後で確認メールを何度も見返したら2日目でした（笑）。1日目も行きたかったのですが、僕がチェックした時にはTicketboardで2日目しか売っていなかったので断念しました。

Anyway, I hopped on the Shinkansen. If you remember from earlier when I flew into Japan, I booked a seat specifically to catch a view of Mount Fuji, but couldn’t because of the typhoon. Well, I made sure to book the Mount Fuji side for this train ride, too. BUT GUESS WHAT?? MOUNT FUJI WAS SHY AGAIN! I didn’t get to see it fully just a tiny bit of the tip peaking out through the clouds.

新幹線に乗り込みました。飛行機の時と同じく、今回も富士山が見える側の席をバッチリ予約していたのですが…なんと今回も富士山はシャイでした！雲の間からほんの少しだけてっぺんが見えただけでした（泣）。

I got off the Shinkansen at Tokyo Station and transferred to the subway to head to Shinjuku. Surprisingly, even though I had fully prepared myself to get completely lost inside Shinjuku Station, navigating to the exit was actually pretty straightforward!

東京駅で新幹線を降り、地下鉄に乗り換えて新宿へ。新宿駅のダンジョンで完全に迷子になる覚悟をしていましたが、意外にもスムーズに出口まで辿り着けました！

By the time I made it out, it was already around 3:00 PM (15:00), so I went straight to my hotel to check in. I stayed at the Shinjuku Prince Hotel, which was included in the official JTB travel package I booked to secure my concert ticket.

外に出るとすでに午後3時（15:00）を過ぎていたので、そのままホテルへ向かってチェックイン。ライブチケットを確保するために申し込んだJTBの公式ツアーパッケージに含まれていた新宿プリンスホテルに宿泊しました。

I stopped by the JTB desk in the lobby to pick up my concert ticket and to my surprise, they also handed me a bundle of bonus concert goodies! Major kudos to them!

ロビーのJTBデスクでチケットを受け取ると、サプライズでライブの限定特典グッズのセットも手渡されました！素晴らしい対応に大感謝です！

I had a quick chat with the JTB staff since my forwarded luggage wouldn’t be arriving until the next day. I wanted to double-check if they could store my bags after checkout, since I’d be leaving early for the concert. He went ahead and confirmed with the hotel staff, who happily agreed to hold my luggage until I returned!

大阪から送った荷物が翌日まで届かないため、ライブ当日のチェックアウト後に荷物を預かってもらえるかJTBスタッフさんに相談しました。ホテル側に確認をとってくれ、快く荷物を預かってくれることになりました！

The view from my room on the 16th floor was mindblowing, I could even see the famous Godzilla head right from my window!

16階の部屋からの眺めは最高で、窓からはなんと有名なゴジラヘッドが見えました！

For dinner that night, I went to Ichiran Ramen.

Day 11 - Day of the Concert / 11日目 - ライブ当日

Ahhhhh!!! The day is finally here!

あぁぁぁ！！！ついにこの日がやってきた！！

Yesterday was Day 1 of the concert, and I successfully managed to avoid every single setlist spoiler online. However, I found out that fans both yesterday and today were already queuing up as early as 6:00 AM. What are you guys doing?! The concert doesn’t even start until 6:00 PM (18:00)! But then again… what do I know? This was my very first time attending a concert in my entire life! I also saw that Adidas was selling a special FIFA x Ado collaboration jersey. I wanted to get one so badly, but it sold out almost instantly.

昨日の1日目のセットリストのネタバレをネットで一切見ずに回避成功！しかし、ファンが朝の6時から物販列に並んでいることを知りました。開演は夕方の6時（18:00）なのに、みんな凄すぎるよ…！まあ、人生初ライブの僕が言えたことではありませんが（笑）。アディダスのFIFA × Adoコラボユニフォームも欲しかったのですが、一瞬で完売してしまったようです。

I left my hotel around noon to head over to Yokohama, where the concert was being held and boy, I did NOT expect to get lost as many times as I did. I took the train towards Yokohama Station, intending to transfer to the line heading toward Shin-Yokohama Station near Nissan Stadium. But somehow, I don’t even know how I managed it, I completely messed up the transfer and ended up in places I’d never even heard of!

正午頃にホテルを出て、会場のある横浜へ向かいました。…が、まさかあんなに迷子になるとは思いもしませんでした。横浜駅で新横浜駅方面の電車に乗り換える予定だったのですが、どう間違えたのか全く聞いたこともない場所に着いてしまいました！

Eventually, I spotted a few Ado fans in merch and decided my best strategy was to just follow them. After taking two more subway lines, I finally, finally arrived at Nissan Stadium. It was quite a long walk from the station to the venue, and my god… there were SO many people. I mean A LOT!!!

最終的にライブグッズを着たファンを発見し、「あの人たちについて行けば間違いない！」と尾行作戦を決行。地下鉄をさらに2つ乗り継ぎ、ついに日産スタジアムに到着しました！駅から会場までは結構歩きましたが、とにかく人の数が凄まじかったです！！！

I walked around the stadium area until 2:00 PM (14:00) while waiting for general merchandise sales to open at 3:00 PM (15:00). I managed to get almost everything I wanted! The only thing I missed out on was the T-shirt, which unfortunately sold out in my size. But I was so hyped to finally get my hands on the official penlight!

午後3時からの一般物販開始を待ちつつ、スタジアム周辺を散策。欲しかったグッズのほとんどを手に入れることができました！自分のサイズのTシャツだけ売り切れてしまいましたが、公式ペンライトをゲットできて最高にハイテンションでした！

The inside of the stadium was freaking hugeeee!!! My seat was on the East Side, Row 2, Number 131. It was pretty far back from Ado, but I still had a decent view of the whole stage.

スタジアム内部はめちゃくちゃ広い！！！僕の席は東スタンド 2列 131番。ステージからは少し距離がありましたが、会場全体が見渡せる良い席でした。

Phantom Siita / ファントムシータ

Around 5:00 PM (17:00), we got the opening act from Phantom Siita. My god, they were amazing! They performed for about 30 minutes, and I was especially hyped when they played Zoku Zoku—it’s one of my absolute favorite songs from them, and saving it as their final song was such a high note to end on. Their facial expressions and stage presence were so incredible to watch live!

午後5時（17:00）、オープニングアクトとしてファントムシータが登場。圧巻のパフォーマンスでした！約30分間のライブで、大好きな曲「ゾクゾク」を最後に歌ってくれて大興奮。生で見せる表情やパフォーマンスの存在感が凄すぎました！

Well, nobody was fooled into thinking it was actually over! Everyone around my section started screaming “Ankōru!! Ankōru!! Ankōru!!”

もちろんこれで終わりだなんて誰も思っていません！会場中から「アンコール！アンコール！」の大歓声が響き渡りました。

After a short break, she came back—and this time, she was inside a mobile cage that literally moved around the stadium track!

少しの休憩の後、彼女が再登場——なんと今度はスタジアムのトラックを移動するトロッコ（移動式ケージ）に乗って登場したのです！

She sang Odoru Ponpokorin, and it was the cutest thing seeing the members of Phantom Siita walking and dancing alongside the cage with the mascots.

「おどるポンポコリン」を歌いながら、ファントムシータのメンバーやマスコットたちがトロッコの横を歩いて踊っている姿が最高に可愛らしかったです。

And GUESS WHAT?? The cage passed right in front of me! She was literally just 2 meters away! Even with her mask on, she looked stunning, and seeing Miu, Moka, Rinka, and Mona up close was insane! She kept singing as the cage made its way back to the main stage.

そしてなんと…トロッコが僕の目と鼻の先を通ったのです！距離にしてわずか2メートル！マスク越しでもオーラが凄く、ファントムシータのメンバー（美生、百花、凛花、もな）を間近で見られて大興奮でした！

Ado expressed her deep respect for Mafumafu, noting that he wrote songs for her and helped build the utaite scene and future she now stands in.

Mafumafu-san shared a special message to Ado-san:

Ado admitted that she has thought about quitting as a singer before, and recently even struggled with not wanting to live, but shared that her love of Vocaloid, singing, and belief in her future carried her through.

かつて歌手をやめようと思ったこと、生きること自体に苦しんだ時期があったこと、それでもボカロや歌うことへの愛、自分の未来を信じる気持ちが支えになってくれたことを告白してくれました。

She shared that growing up, she was made to feel like a “bad kid” and still falls into that mindset, but that she truly likes herself when she is singing. She wants to repay everyone who believes in her, and feels that if her life can be useful to others, she is allowed to keep living.

自分が「悪い子」だと思い込まされて育ち、今でもその考えにとらわれることがあるけれど、歌っている時の自分だけは心から好きになれること。自分を信じてくれるみんなに恩返しがしたい、自分の人生が誰かの役に立つのなら生き続けてもいいんだと思えるようになったこと。

She told the crowd that she wants to be a refuge for their negative emotions, reminding everyone that as long as she is out there singing, no one is worthless.

She then introduced her final song, describing herself as a supporting character in everyone’s lives:

I mean… HOW CAN YOU NOT CRY?! She was crying so hard on stage, man! You could feel every single ounce of raw emotion in her voice. Hearing her pour her heart out like that had the whole stadium in tears. GODDD.😭

いやもう…泣かないなんて無理でしょ！？彼女自身もステージでボロボロ泣いていて、声から溢れ出る感情の生々しさにスタジアム全体が大号泣でした。本当に凄かった…😭

Day 12 - Monday - Post-concert Depression / 12日目 - 月曜日 ライブロス

Last night was easily the best night of my life. But now… the post-concert depression has officially hit.

昨夜は間違いなく人生最高の一夜でした。しかし今…強烈なライブロス（燃え尽き症候群）が押し寄せています。

2-3 days later, the Official Ado Staff page on Instagram posted the highlights of the concert. AND GUESS WHATTTTT, I FREAKING APPEARED IN ADO’S VIDEOOOO….AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, I CAN FINALLY DIE IN PEACE!

2〜3日後、Adoスタッフ公式Instagramにライブのハイライト動画が投稿されました。そしてなんと……僕がAdoちゃんの動画にバッチリ映っていたんです……あぁぁぁぁぁぁぁ、もう心残りは何もありません！！

I checked out of my hotel around 11:00 AM to head over to Asakusa.

午前11時頃にホテルをチェックアウトし、浅草へ移動。

Asakusa / 浅草

Asakusa has a much more traditional Japanese vibe. I booked a traditional Ryokan hotel here for one night.

浅草は日本の伝統的な風情が色濃く残る街。ここに1泊だけ伝統的な旅館を予約していました。

As soon as I stepped outside in Asakusa, the very first thing I spotted was the famous Giant Golden Poop!

浅草で外に出ると、真っ先に目に入ったのがあの有名な「金のうんこ（アサヒビール本部のオブジェ）」！

Rickshaws are really popular around Asakusa. While I was walking, one of the rickshaw drivers approached me and explained the local spots, asking if I wanted a tour. I really wanted to try it, but it was just too expensive—¥4,000 for 12 minutes! I was pretty shocked when he mentioned he could even pull the rickshaw all the way to Shibuya (which takes around 5 to 6 hours!)… but yeah, I ended up passing on it.

浅草周辺では人力車が大人気。歩いていると人力車のお兄さんに声をかけられ見どころを説明してくれました。乗ってみたかったのですが、12分で4,000円とちょっとお高め！渋谷まで引いて行くこともできる（5〜6時間かかるそう！）と言われて驚きましたが、見送ることにしました。

After checking into my hotel, which was super traditional and cozy, I spent the rest of the day taking a peaceful walk along the Sumida River and visiting Sensoji Temple. The temple itself was really beautiful, though as expected, there were way too many people!

とても風情があって心地よい旅館にチェックインした後、隅田川沿いをのんびり散歩し、浅草寺を参拝。お寺は素晴らしく美しかったですが、予想通り人でいっぱいでした！

Day 13 - Shinjuku / 13日目 - 新宿

I checked in at Hotel Gracery (the Godzilla hotel)—it was definitely on the pricier side, but I really wanted to stay here at least once!

ホテルグレイスリー新宿（ゴジラホテル）にチェックイン。お値段はかなり高めでしたが、一度は泊まってみたかったんです！

The first thing I did was head over to the Adidas Store. Unfortunately, they had already removed the giant Ado statue that was previously in Miyashita Park. I went inside hoping to buy the official Japan jersey, but my bad luck struck again… every single Japan jersey was completely sold out! I really wanted to get one customized with “Ado” on the back, but the only size left anywhere was 3XL. It was literally SOLD OUT ALL ACROSS JAPAN!

最初に向かったのはアディダスショップ。残念ながら宮下パークにあったAdoの巨大像はすでに撤去されていました。日本代表ユニフォームを買おうと店内に入りましたが、またしても不運発動…ユニフォームが全サイズ完売！背中に「Ado」ネームを入れたかったのですが、残っていたのは3XLサイズのみ。日本全国で売り切れ状態でした！

Thank goodness I managed to pick up the long sleeve version back in Osaka while it was still in stock!

大阪にいた時に長袖バージョンを買っておいて本当に良かったです！

Unexpected Interview in Shinjuku / 新宿での思いがけない取材

That evening, I was invited out for Yakiniku by a local Japanese host. Actually, let me rephrase that… I was invited to do an interview! A few days prior, someone had reached out asking if I’d be down to do a food interview eating Japanese cuisine. I mean, hell yeah, of course I was going to say yes!!

その日の夜、日本人のホストの方から焼肉に招待されました。というか、正確にはYouTubeインタビューの撮影でした！数日前、「日本食を食べるグルメインタビューに出演しませんか？」とDMをもらい、もちろん即答でOKしました！

I met him around 5:00 PM in Shinjuku, where he explained how the shoot would work. He stepped away to get everything prepped, came back, and hit record. After filming the introduction outside, we headed straight to the Yakiniku restaurant. I was NOT expecting it to be so fancy! To be completely honest, it was my first time ever trying Yakiniku. Before the trip, he had asked me what dishes I hadn’t tried yet, and this is what he chose.

午後5時に新宿で合流し、撮影の流れの説明を受けました。外でオープニングを撮った後、焼肉店へ移動。まさかあんな高級店だとは思いもしませんでした！実は本格的な焼肉を食べるのはこれが人生初。事前に食べたことがない日本食を聞かれていたので、彼が選んでくれたのです。

It was top tier fancy. We had our own private room with a built-in barbecue grill right in the middle of the table. Usually, at a traditional Yakiniku spot, you grill your own meat. But since this was a high-end place, we had our own personal chef who grilled every cut right in front of us!

超高級店で、テーブルの中央にグリルがある完全個室。普通の焼肉店なら自分で肉を焼きますが、そこは専属のシェフが目の前で極上のお肉を一枚ずつ焼いてくれるスタイルでした！

He set up his camera and started recording. The first dish brought out was beef tartare and goodness me, it was freaking delicious. Absolute magic in my mouth! It was raw beef at the bottom topped with a raw egg yolk. They told me to mix them together before eating. The egg yolk tasted completely different from what I’m used to back home in Mauritius… so rich and creamy!

カメラをセットして撮影開始。一品目はユッケ（生肉のタルタル）。これが昇天するほど美味しかった！生肉の上に濃密な卵黄が乗っていて、混ぜて食べるとお口の中で魔法が起きました。モーリシャスの卵とは全く違って、めちゃくちゃ濃厚でクリーミー！

I don’t remember every single item we ate, but judging from my photos, we also had an A5 Wagyu sandwich, which was ridiculously good.

全てのメニューは覚えていませんが、写真を見る限りA5ランク和牛のカツサンドもあり、とんでもない美味しさでした。

Next up, the chef started grilling various cuts of meat. I believe I tried beef tongue, along with a massive piece of Wagyu that literally melted in my mouth the moment I took a bite.

続いてシェフが様々な部位を焼いてくれました。牛タンや、一口食べた瞬間に口の中でとろける極上和牛を堪能。

Toward the end, we had a dish with rice, beef, and unagi (eel). The beef felt a little under-salted to me, so that one wasn’t really my favorite.

終盤にはご飯の上に牛肉とウナギが乗った料理が出ました。少し塩味が薄く感じたので、これだけは唯一あまり好みではありませんでした。

For dessert, we were served a matcha wafer sandwich with vanilla ice cream inside.

デザートはバニラアイスを挟んだ抹茶モナカ。

Throughout the meal, I gave my honest reactions on camera—and I swear I wasn’t overreacting! It was my first time ever being interviewed, so I was super nervous, but I tried my best to keep it natural.

食事中、カメラに向かって素のリアクションを返しました（オーバーにリアクションしたわけじゃなく本気で感動してました！）。インタビューなんて初めてだったので緊張しましたが、できる限り自然体で頑張りました。

At the end of the shoot, I gave him a little Dodo bird souvenir as a thank you gift. He kindly paid for the entire meal which, given how fancy it was, must have been crazy expensive!

撮影後、感謝の気持ちを込めてモーリシャスのドードー鳥のお土産をプレゼントしました。あんな超高級店の食事代を全額ごちそうしてくれて、本当に感謝しかありません！

Day 14 - Harry Potter and the Cursed Child / 14日目 - 舞台『ハリー・ポッターと呪いの子』

Back when I was planning my itinerary, I randomly came across this online: they were performing the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child stage play in Tokyo! Obviously, I had to get a ticket. I booked everything online months ago back in Mauritius.

旅行計画を立てていた時、東京で舞台『ハリー・ポッターと呪いの子』が上演されているのをネットで見つけました！ファンとして行かないわけにはいかないので、モーリシャスにいる数ヶ月前にオンラインでチケットを確保していました。

When the day finally arrived, I headed over to Akasaka where the play was being held. The train station itself is full of Harry Potter vibes, including a giant Time-Turner display, a souvenir shop, and even a themed Harry Potter Cafe!

当日、会場のある赤坂へ。駅全体がハリー・ポッターの世界観で包まれており、巨大なタイムターナー（逆転時計）のオブジェ、グッズショップ、コラボカフェまでありました！

Stupidly enough, I didn’t realize until the last minute that I needed ¥10,000 in cash as a deposit for the English subtitle device. I was literally standing in line waiting for my turn when it finally clicked! I had to sprint all the way to a nearby 7-11 five minutes away, pull out the cash, and sprint all the way back to jump into queue just in time to grab the portable screen.

間抜けなことに、英語字幕端末の保証金として「現金1万円」が必要なことにギリギリまで気づきませんでした！列に並んで自分の番が来る直前に気づき、徒歩5分のセブンイレブンまで全力ダッシュして現金を下ろし、息を切らして戻ってなんとか端末を借りることができました！

The Play / 舞台本番

The play itself was fantastic! Since it was performed entirely in Japanese, having the portable subtitle device was super helpful for following along. You can probably guess how amazing it was! I read the script book when it first came out years ago, so I already knew the general storyline. It started off at Platform 9¾ with Harry and Ginny seeing their kids off to Hogwarts, alongside Hermione, Ron, and their children.

舞台は文句なしに素晴らしかったです！全編日本語での上演だったので、字幕端末があって本当に助かりました。数年前に脚本本を読んでいたのでストーリーは知っていましたが、9と¾番線でハリーとジニー、ハーマイオニーとロンが子供たちをホグワーツへ送り出すシーンから引き込まれました。

I was completely mindblown by how synchronized the entire cast was. Words honestly can’t do it justice—bloody hell, it was sublime!

キャスト全員の息の合った演技と演出の同調に言葉を失いました。言葉では言い表せないほど、まさに圧巻の一言！

If you’ve read the book, the stage production follows it scene for scene. Right before the interval, the Dementors appeared and were literally flying all around the entire theater. They were absolute nightmare fuel and so terrifying to see live!

原作脚本を忠実に再現しており、前半の幕切れ直前にはディメンターたちが劇場全体を飛び回り、トラウマ級の恐ろしさと臨場感でした！

Overall, the whole play ran for about 5 hours, but it was worth every single minute.

休憩含めて約5時間の長丁場でしたが、一秒たりとも無駄のない最高の体験でした。

Day 16 - Relax Day / 16日目 - 休日

On this day, I decided to take it easy. I strolled around Shinjuku and ordered myself a badminton racket. I missed seeing Viktor Axelsen and Kento Momota by just a couple of days, but I still got to see their signatures!

この日はまったり過ごすことに。新宿を散策し、バドミントンラケットを注文。アクセルセン選手や桃田賢斗選手を直接見る機会は数日違いで逃してしまいましたが、二人のサインを見ることができました！

Okay, I’m pretty sure you know about Onitsuka Tiger. I’m not particularly a big fan of shoes, but since they’re so popular here in Japan, I decided to pick up a pair. Normally, to visit their stores across Japan, you have to get a ticket and wait anywhere from 45 minutes to 3 hours for your turn. But lucky for me, the day I was in Shinjuku, a new store had just opened and it was huge! I headed inside and while it was definitely crowded I managed to squeeze in and grab myself a pair.

オニツカタイガーはご存知ですよね。普段スニーカーマニアというわけではありませんが、日本で大人気なので一足買うことに。普段なら整理券を取って45分〜3時間待ちもザラですが、幸運にもこの日新宿に超巨大な新店舗がオープンしたばかりでした！混雑していましたが、なんとか滑り込んでお気に入りの一足をゲット！

In the evening, I walked over to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, which was about a 20min walk from my hotel. Every night starting at 19:30, they hold a projection mapping light show. The lineup featured Bocchi the Rock!, a song by AiNA THE END, and more!

夜はホテルから徒歩20分ほどの都庁へ。毎晩19:30からプロジェクションマッピングのライトショーが開催されており、『ぼっち・ざ・ろっく！』やアイナ・ジ・エンドの曲などのショーを楽しみました！

Day 17 - Akihabara (Part 1) / 17日目 - 秋葉原（パート1）

Akihabara is a place you’ll love if you’re a geek like me! It’s packed with manga, anime, and gaming spots everywhere you look.

オタクにとって秋葉原は楽園！どこを見渡してもマンガ、アニメ、ゲームのお店で溢れています。

I arrived around noon after checking out of my hotel in Shinjuku. Since check-in at my new hotel wasn’t until 3:00 PM, I went for a walk. First, I checked out Yodobashi Camera—a massive 9-story building filled with gadgets, electronics, and anime merchandise. I spent around two hours just wandering around.

新宿のホテルをチェックアウトし、お昼頃に秋葉原に到着。新しいホテルのチェックインまで時間があったので散策を開始。まずはヨドバシカメラへ——9階建ての巨大ビルに家電やアニメグッズがぎっしり。2時間ほど夢中で歩き回りました。

One cool thing is that they have demo stations where you can try out games for free! I played on the Nintendo Switch 2, PS4, and gaming PCs, and even tried out VR. They even had drawing tablets set up—the same kind animators use to draw anime!

I decided to try my luck at the game centers… and after way too many attempts (please don’t ask me how much money I spent on this 💀), I FINALLY won a Frieren figurine!

ゲームセンターでクレーンゲームに挑戦…（いくら使ったかは聞かないでください💀）、ついにフリーレンのフィギュアを自力でゲット！！

Day 18 - Akihabara (Part 2) / 18日目 - 秋葉原（パート2）

Day 19 - Shibuya / 19日目 - 渋谷

Ah, Shibuya—the final stop of my trip! For as long as I can remember, I’ve watched the Shibuya Crossing live stream on YouTube, so actually being there felt surreal.

旅の最後の滞在地、渋谷！ずっとYouTubeで渋谷スクランブル交差点のライブカメラを見ていたので、実際にその場所に立っているのが夢のようでした。

Honestly though, I think Shibuya Crossing is a bit overrated. Every time the pedestrian light turns green, a bunch of people rush to the middle to pose for photos—mostly influencers! With so many crowds around, I was starting to get a bit irritated (I guess that’s why I travel alone! xD).

ただ正直言うと、スクランブル交差点はちょっとオーバーレイテッド（期待されすぎ）かなと（笑）。信号が青になるたびにインフルエンサーたちが中央に群がってポーズを決めるので、人が多すぎて少々イライラしちゃいました（だから一人旅が好きなんです！）。

Anyway, I even took a screenshot from the YouTube live stream to see if I could spot myself in the crowd!

Next, I headed to the Adidas Shibuya Store. Previously, they had a giant Ado wallpaper display set up inside, but it looks like they recently replaced it with a massive football jersey display!

続いてアディダス渋谷店へ。以前は巨大なAdoの壁面ディスプレイがあったのですが、サッカーユニフォームのディスプレイに変更されていました。

I went inside really hoping to pick up both the white and short-sleeve Japan national team jerseys… but guess what? Sold out everywhere across Japan! What the hell?! I was so relieved I managed to snag the long-sleeve version back in Osaka.

日本代表の白ユニフォームと半袖ユニフォームを買いに入ったのですが、見事に全国完売！大阪で長袖を買っておいて本当に良かった…！

On the way, I even ran into a Paolo from TOKYO branded vending machine! If you don’t know him, he’s a YouTuber I’ve been watching for years who makes awesome videos on Japanese food and daily life. Definitely give his channel a watch!

Day 20 - Ginza Uniqlo Shopping / 20日目 - 銀座ユニクロ爆買い

Today, I decided to head to Ginza, home to a massive Uniqlo flagship store.

今日はユニクロの巨大グローバル旗艦店がある銀座へ。

I did a lot of shopping! For lunch, I checked out a local ramen spot with great reviews, and it was obviously super delicious.

服を爆買い！ランチは評判のラーメン店へ行きましたが、期待通りの絶品でした。

I also bought a new suitcase for a decent price back in Akihabara. I ended up buying a bunch of travel stickers and started sticking them all over it!

秋葉原でお手頃な新しいスーツケースを購入していたので、ステッカーをたくさん買ってペタペタ貼り始めました！

Day 21 - Ghibli Museum + Meiji Shrine / 21日目 - ジブリ美術館 ＆ 明治神宮

GHIBLI DAYYY!!! Finally!

ついにジブリの日！！待ちに待った！

If you don’t know, getting tickets for the Ghibli Museum is ridiculously hard. Tickets go on sale on the 10th of every month at 10:00 AM Japan Standard Time (JST) for the following month. For me back home in Mauritius, that meant logging on at 5:00 AM.

ジブリ美術館のチケットを取るのがどれほど困難かご存知でしょうか。毎月10日の午前10時（日本時間）に翌月分のチケットが販売されるのですが、モーリシャス時間だと早朝の午前5時になります。

For four months straight leading up to the trip, I practiced getting into the queue! I would wake up at 4:00 AM just to test my strategy so I’d be 100% prepared when the June 10th tickets (for my July visit) went live.

旅行前の4ヶ月間、毎月10日に早朝4時に起きてチケット購入キューに並ぶシミュレーション訓練を重ねました！7月訪問分のチケットが発売される6月10日に万全の体制で挑むためです。

My battle setup: laptop + phone, running multiple browsers, dozens of tabs, and incognito windows active simultaneously. I literally had over 100 tabs open just to beat the queue system!

ノートPC＋スマホをフル活用し、複数ブラウザ、シークレットウィンドウ、100以上のタブを開いてシステムに挑みました！

Finally, on the 10th of June, luck was on my side! Using my phone, I got placed 426th in the queue and was finally able to secure my ticket!

そして本番の6月10日、スマホで奇跡の426番を引き当て、ついにチケットを獲得できました！

The museum is located in Mitaka. On the day of the visit, I took two train lines: the Yamanote Line and the Chuo Line. From Mitaka Station, you need to catch a bus to the museum, but it’s super easy to navigate thanks to clear signs in English guiding you to the bus stop. If you’re lucky, you might get to ride the special yellow Ghibli Museum bus! (I wasn’t so lucky, though). The total journey took around 40 minutes.

美術館は三鷹にあります。山手線と中央線に乗って三鷹駅へ。駅からバスに乗るのですが、英語案内が分かりやすくてスムーズでした。運が良ければ黄色のジブリバスに乗れます！（僕は普通のバスでした泣）。移動は約40分。

I booked the 10:00 AM entry slot. I arrived right on time, and there was already a huge queue waiting to get inside.

10:00の初回枠を予約。時間通り到着するとすでに大行列でした。

At the entrance, after showing your QR code, you receive some special souvenirs. I got a physical 35mm film strip ticket featuring a scene from Ponyo—and everyone receives a different film frame! Inside the lobby, there’s even a projector setup where you can view your film strip on a backlit screen.

受付でQRコードを見せると、入場特典として『崖の上のポニョ』の35mm映画フィルムの入場券がもらえました！人によってカットが違い、ロビーには光にかざしてフィルムを見られる装置もありました。

Unfortunately, taking photos or videos inside the museum is strictly prohibited. To describe it briefly, the interior shows the magic of animation behind the scenes: zoetropes, traditional animation machinery, rooms covered wall-to-wall in concept sketches, and even a replica of Hayao Miyazaki’s desk! If you’re a fan of Studio Ghibli movies, definitely add this to your Japan travel plan—just make sure you prep for the ticket drop!

館内は完全撮影禁止。アニメーションの仕組みや制作舞台裏、パラパラ漫画の立体版（ゾトロープ）、スケッチで埋め尽くされた部屋や宮﨑駿監督のデスクの再現など、ジブリファンなら絶対に訪れるべき夢のような空間でした！

The souvenir shop is on the top floor. They had a lot of cool merch, though many items were a bit pricey. I ended up buying two small plushies: Totoro and a Soot Sprite.

Meiji Shrine / 明治神宮

After the Ghibli Museum, I took the train over to Harajuku to visit Meiji Shrine. It was freaking hot out, and I was sweating like crazy! Thankfully, the pathway leading up to the shrine is fully shaded by a dense canopy of trees.

ジブリ美術館の後は原宿へ移動し明治神宮へ。とにかく猛暑で汗だくになりましたが、参道は鬱蒼とした木々に覆われていて涼しかったです。

Day 22 - Day Out of the City: Todoroki Valley / 22日目 - 都会のオアシス：等々力渓谷

Todoroki Ravine Park is a beautiful, quiet, and cool oasis tucked away right in Tokyo. I stumbled across this place by accident while browsing online and decided to check it out!

東京の真っ只中にこんな静かで涼しい癒やしの空間があるなんて！ネットで見つけて立ち寄ってみた等々力渓谷公園です。

Back to Shibuya / 渋谷へ戻る

I headed back to Shibuya after spending around 2 to 3 hours wandering through the valley.

Day 23 - Back to Akihabara: Steins;Gate Exhibition / 23日目 - 再び秋葉原：シュタインズ・ゲート展

I headed back to Akihabara for the special Steins;Gate exhibition. It took me a while to locate the right building, but I eventually made it!

『STEINS;GATE（シュタインズ・ゲート）』の特別展を見るために再び秋葉原へ。ビルを探すのに少し迷いましたが無事到着！

Day 24 - Relax Day - Last Day of Shopping / 24日目 - のんびり最終買い物日

Back in Shibuya, a wild Reggie from JJK appeared out of nowhere! It was actually a giant, 2-meter-tall statue of him. His body was completely covered in paper receipts. If you don’t know, Reggie is a character from Jujutsu Kaisen whose cursed technique, Contract Recreation, allows him to burn receipts to instantly manifest whatever item or service is printed on them into reality. For this event, you could actually step up and pull a receipt attached to the giant Reggie for a chance to win some amazing prizes!

渋谷で『呪術廻戦』のレジィ・スターの巨大スタチューを発見！全身レシートだらけのレジィから実際にレシートを破り取って豪華賞品が当たるイベントをやっていました！

I ended up waiting in queue for about an hour just to try it out. I actually won something! It was related to Monster Strike, but with the massive crowd, claiming the prize meant waiting another 2 to 3 hours. I decided not to bother and just kept moving, but it was still a super cool event to stumble upon.

1時間ほど並んで体験し、見事に賞品（モンスト関連）が当選！ただ引換にさらに2〜3時間待ちと言われたので諦めましたが、面白いイベントでした。

A long-time dream finally came true! The only downside? I had no one to do the iconic pose with on the steps xD, but it was still totally worth the visit!

長年の夢だった『君の名は。』の聖地の階段へ！一緒に例のポーズをする相手がいなかったことだけが心残りですが（笑）、来られて本当に感動しました！

Day 25 - Daihatsu Japan Open 2026 - Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium / 25日目 - ダイハツジャパンオープン2026（東京体育館）

My trip to Japan wasn’t originally supposed to be this long. But when I found out that the Japan Open was happening, I told myself I had to be there no matter what, so I extended my stay by another week. Luckily, I had already managed to secure a ticket to the finals back home in Mauritius.

元々の予定を1週間延長してまで観に来たダイハツジャパンオープン！モーリシャスにいる時に決勝のチケットを事前確保していました。

There were so many top players I was dying to see live, like An Se Young, Akane Yamaguchi, Chiharu Shida, Tomoka Miyazaki, etc. Unfortunately, Se-young had to withdraw due to injury, Shida didn’t participate, and Miyazaki lost in the first round. However, Yamaguchi made it all the way to the final, and I was beyond excited to watch her!

I arrived around 10:30 AM, and the venue was already packed with fans.

Mixed Doubles / 混合ダブルス

First up was the Mixed Doubles final featuring China vs. Chinese Taipei.

まずは中国 vs チャイニーズ・タイペイの混合ダブルス決勝。フルセットの熱戦の末、中国ペアが勝利！

Women’s Singles / 女子シングルス

Next up was the Women’s Singles! I’ve been a massive fan of Akane Yamaguchi for a long time and have watched almost every single one of her matches live on the BWF channel. Finally getting to see her play in person meant the world to me.

続いて女子シングルス！長年ずっと応援している山口茜選手のプレーを生で見られて最高に幸せでした。

Her opponent was Pusarla V. Sindhu.

対戦相手はプサルラ・V・シンドゥ選手。

The atmosphere inside the stadium was unbelievable.

会場の熱気が凄まじかったです。

Unfortunately, Akane didn’t manage to pull off the win, but Sindhu’s play was incredibly sharp and aggressive. She took the match in two straight sets.

残念ながら山口選手は破れてしまいましたが、シンドゥ選手の攻撃的なプレーが見事でした。

Men’s Singles / 男子シングルス

Next was Christo Popov vs. Koki Watanabe.

クリスト・ポポフ vs 渡辺航貴。ポポフ選手が絶好調でストレート勝ち。

Women’s Doubles / 女子ダブルス

Women’s Doubles featured the Korean pair Kim Hye Jeong and Kong Hee Yong vs. the Chinese pair Zhang Shu Xian and Jia Yi Fan.

韓国ペア vs 中国ペアの女子ダブルス。これが歴史に残る超絶怒涛の神試合となりました！

This match went to a deciding third set, and honest to God, we were treated to absolute peak badminton.

ファイナルセットにもつれ込み、バドミントン史に残る激闘へ。

The third set went deep into extra points: 20-20, 21-20, 21-21… all the way up to 26-26, 27-27!

20-20からデュースが延々と続き、26-26、27-27まで突入！

The photographers courtside added so much unintentional comedy to the moment. Every time the Korean pair held match point, all the photographers would shuffle back and forth (aller-retour) to focus on them, and the second the Chinese pair pulled ahead, they’d all hurry back to the other side to cover them instead. Watching them switch back and forth on every single point was hilarious!

コート脇のカメラマンたちが、マッチポイントが入れ替わるたびに右へ左へゾロゾロ移動する姿がコントみたいで面白かったです（笑）。

The match finally reached the ultimate sudden-death point at 29-29! On the final rally, Zhang Shu Xian hit a shot over the baseline; she initially thought she won the match, while the Korean pair immediately celebrated, knowing it was out. Absolute drama until the very last second! China called for a Hawk-Eye challenge, but the review confirmed the shuttle was out, handing the victory to the Korean pair.

最後は脅威の29-29のサドンデス！最後のラリーでシャトルがアウトになり、チャレンジの末、韓国ペアが奇跡的な勝利を収めました！

Finally, we had the Men’s Doubles final featuring Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri against the world number one Korean pair, Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae.

最後は男子ダブルス。世界ランク1位の韓国ペア相手に、インドネシアペアが凄まじいプレーで見事なジャイアントキリング（金星）を果たしました！

Day 26 - Final Day / 26日目 - 最終日

Ahhh… why can’t we have unlimited happiness? 😭

あぁぁ…幸せな時間はずっと続かないのでしょうか？😭

On my final day, I booked a taxi to drive me to the station for the Limousine Bus to Narita Airport. Technically, the bus stop was only about a 5min walk from my hotel, but it involved going down a set of stairs. Since I was hauling two huge pieces of luggage plus a massive backpack, I decided to take a taxi instead. It ended up being a quick 3min drive 😂, but I still paid 1,000 yen!

成田空港行きのリムジンバス乗り場へ向かうためタクシーを手配。徒歩5分の距離でしたが大荷物だったのでタクシーを使いました。3分で着いて1,000円でした（笑）。

I arrived at the stop, waited about an hour for the bus, and then headed off to the airport.

バスを待って空港へ出発。

This was the moment where I nearly cried… Honestly, Japan was so amazing. How I wish I lived here!

この瞬間、本気で泣きそうになりました…日本は本当に素晴らしかった。ここに住めたらどんなにいいか！

Day 27 - Layover in Malaysia / 27日目 - マレーシアでのレイオーバー

Well… back in Malaysia. Everything felt so noisy and chaotic, and I was getting irritated by every little thing after leaving Japan!

マレーシアに到着。日本を出た直後だったので、周囲の騒々しさやカオスさに少しイライラしてしまいました（笑）。

I landed in Malaysia around midnight, and my connecting flight wasn’t for another 12 hours (at 12:50 PM).

深夜に着き、次の乗り継ぎ便まで12時間。

I booked a capsule hotel right at the airport to get some sleep, refreshed myself, and then caught my flight back home.

空港内のカプセルホテルで睡眠をとり、リフレッシュして帰国便へ。

Saying goodbye to Japan was so hard, but this trip was everything I could have wished for and more. The countdown to the next trip starts now! 🎌

日本とお別れするのは寂しかったですが、思い描いていた以上の最高の旅になりました。次の旅へのカウントダウンが今始まります！🎌

Thinking of doing Mt. Fuji next time and going to see all the Mugiwaras Statues in Kumamoto Prefecture!
